MP Confirms Rescue of 59 Fishermen, Calls for Navy Patrols After ‘Black Boat’ Pirate Attack

by Creative Network

An active criminal investigation is underway following a sophisticated pirate attack that left 59 fishermen adrift at sea.

Awutu Senya West MP Gizella Tetteh-Agbotui has confirmed the safe rescue of all the men, who were robbed at gunpoint by unidentified assailants operating from a distinctive black boat.

The armed raid, which took place 35 nautical miles offshore, saw the pirates strip seven canoes of their outboard motors and generators before disappearing.

The incident has exposed the vulnerability of local fishermen to maritime crime, sparking urgent calls from the MP for increased Ghana Navy patrols along the Central Region coastline.

While the nationality of the pirates remains unconfirmed, the CID is investigating what appears to be a highly organized criminal operation.

The survivors, though traumatized, are now safe on shore and receiving medical attention.
