The items include toilet rolls, liquid soap, water, drinks and tissues, as well as lunch for inmates.

The donation, which took place over the weekend, fulfils the ladies’ desire to share the love of Christ with prisoners of the condemned cells. Members of the Ministry also spent the afternoon engaging with inmates and prison officials to further understand their needs and used the opportunity to lift their spirits with messages of hope.

During the presentation, the President of the Laurel Ladies Ministry, Mrs Lucy Asiedu Safah said the donation is to serve as an encouragement to the inmates and assure them of God’s love. She added that the Ministry will see to it that from time to time, they visit and support them in the little way they can.

“We believe in initiatives that also serve to promote human growth and development through our corporate social responsibility (CSR) programmes while complementing the efforts of the government,” she told our reporter.

Acting head pastor of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Ghana, Bubiashie branch, Eric Opoku Agyekum who led a sermon with the inmates encouraged them to put behind them any form of bitterness, assuring them of God’s love.

“We went there to encourage them and to motivate them so that they will understand the issues of life that it is not their final stage, anything can happen, they can be pardoned, they can walk free, evidence can come that can exonerate or set them free.”

He added, “We know we are far from the ideal situation, but this should serve as an important start in what we are trying to do for humanity. We want to appreciate the Ghana Prisons Service for the wonderful work you are doing for these inmates as you prepare them to integrate effortlessly back into society.”

Receiving the items on behalf of the Nsawam Prisons, the officials expressed gratitude for the gesture adding that it will go a long way towards supporting the government’s efforts in running the facility.
