A wave of relief has swept through the Mamprobi community after police in Dansoman arrested a woman suspected of snatching a newborn baby right from the Mamprobi Polyclinic.
The infant, whose disappearance sparked panic and outrage on Tuesday, has been safely recovered.
In an emotional scene at the Dansoman Police Station, the baby was reunited with his mother. The overjoyed mother, who had been separated from her child under distressing circumstances, was later escorted to the polyclinic’s gynaecology department for medical checks.
The drama unfolded on Tuesday afternoon when a father’s worst nightmare became reality.
After discovering his child was missing, a distraught man confronted hospital authorities, desperately demanding to see CCTV footage. Videos of his emotional outburst quickly spread online, capturing the raw anguish of a parent fighting to find his newborn.
It was that very security footage that proved crucial. The recordings reportedly captured the alleged thief in the act, giving police the lead they needed to track her down and make a swift arrest.
The community’s anxiety was felt far beyond the hospital walls. Ablekuma South MP, Alfred Oko Vanderpuye, stepped in to mediate, working closely with the police and hospital management to ensure the child’s safe return.
The sense of relief was palpable when the Gender Minister and other local legislators arrived at the station to witness the happy reunion.
Speaking to Adom News, tearful family members could barely hide their gratitude, thanking the police and the public for their swift support.
As the family begins to heal from the trauma, authorities have promised to tighten security at health facilities to ensure no other parent has to go through such an ordeal.
