A tragic accident on the Kumasi-Offinso Highway has left one person dead and another critically injured following a collision involving an articulated truck and three other vehicles.
The incident occurred on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Anyinasuso, near Offinso. According to eyewitnesses, the truck, which was travelling from Aboffuor towards Kumasi, lost control and ploughed into three oncoming vehicles.
A Toyota Vitz bore the brunt of the impact. The driver of the vehicle sustained critical injuries, while a passenger in the car was pronounced dead on arrival at the Offinso hospital. Both the survivor and the deceased are currently receiving care at the medical facility.
Police have secured the accident scene and have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the crash.
In a separate devastating incident, three young men have died in a mining accident at Tarkwa, a community near Gbane in the Tongo District of the Upper East Region.
A police report indicates the men were working underground when a large slab of rock detached and fell on them, causing instant death.
The bodies were recovered by fellow miners before authorities arrived. In a press statement issued on February 17, police detailed that the mining pit owner, Tii Musah, identified the deceased as his workers: Subil Nmabil (aged approximately 30), Musah Zipati (aged approximately 40), and Onyin Udasaa (aged approximately 35).
A preliminary examination at the scene revealed severe traumatic injuries:
- Subil Nmabil: A deep laceration to the left ribcage.
- Musah Zipati: Multiple severe head injuries.
- Onyin Udasaa: A crushed right hand.
The bodies were transported to the Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga, where they were officially pronounced dead by a medical officer. They have been deposited at the hospital’s morgue pending further investigation and an autopsy.
