Five individuals have perished in a tragic road accident on Saturday, December 20, 2025 in the afternoon at Ayensudo along the Cape Coast-Takoradi Highway.
According to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the incident involved a collision between a passenger bus and a cargo truck. Divisional Officer II Abdul Wasiu Hudu, Central Regional PRO for the GNFS, confirmed that a distress call was received at 09:26 hours.
A rescue team from the Komenda Fire Station was immediately dispatched. Upon arrival, personnel discovered five deceased passengers, who were partially mutilated and trapped inside a Toyota Hiace bus with registration number GW-9873-22. The vehicle had veered off the road into nearby bushes.
Fire service officials cordoned off the area, extricated the bodies, and handed them over to the Ghana Police Service present at the scene.
Preliminary information from an eyewitness, relayed by DOII Hudu, indicates the Toyota Hiace bus was traveling from Accra to Takoradi. The driver allegedly attempted to overtake another vehicle, lost control, and collided with the side of a DAF truck (registration GG-3227-25) heading from Takoradi to Cape Coast.
In addition to the fatalities, five other persons sustained injuries and were transported to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital by the National Ambulance Service. Three passengers escaped the crash physically unharmed.
The accident caused a brief traffic disruption on the highway. The GNFS crew worked to clear the wreckage, allowing for the swift restoration of normal vehicular flow.
Investigations into the exact cause of the crash are ongoing.
