Newly elected Ablekuma North Member of Parliament, Ewurabena Aubynn, has expressed pride and fulfillment after securing a hard-fought victory in Friday’s parliamentary rerun. The National Democratic Congress (NDC) candidate defeated her New Patriotic Party (NPP) rival, Nana Akua Owusu Afriyie, in a tightly contested race decided by just 209 votes.

Aubynn polled 34,090 votes against Afriyie’s 33,881, clinching the seat for the NDC. Addressing the media after the Electoral Commission declared the results, the MP-elect said her win was a testament to her campaign’s grassroots approach.

“This victory was expected because we worked tirelessly for it,” she stated. “Our campaign was built on direct engagement with the people and offering real solutions to the challenges facing Ablekuma North.”

Now officially elected, Aubynn pledged to prioritize the needs of her constituents, emphasizing improvements in basic amenities. “Our community has been deprived of essential services for too long. We will work diligently to bring the needed development,” she promised.

She extended gratitude to the voters, NDC leadership, and her supporters—including her mother, Valarir Sawyerr, as well as regional and national executives. “This victory is by God’s grace. What He wills, He accomplishes,” she added, describing her win as divinely ordained.

Aubynn reaffirmed her commitment to serving with integrity, stating, “The people of Ablekuma North voted for change, and we will ensure that change is delivered.”

The rerun, held on July 11, followed an earlier electoral dispute, with Aubynn’s triumph solidifying the NDC’s hold on the constituency.
