40 Armoured Vehicles Are For Citizens Protection, Not Oppression – Interior Minister Tells Police

by Creative Network

Interior Minister, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak has issued a strong warning to police officers against using their authority to intimidate citizens, stating that new government resources are for protection, not oppression.

Speaking at the commissioning of 40 new armoured vehicles for the Ghana Police Service, the Minister emphasized that the significant investment is aimed at enhancing public safety and officer protection, not enabling excesses.

“These resources and the trust reposed in you are not licences for intimidation or excesses. They are instruments of protection and not oppression,” he declared.

He stressed that their service must be defined daily by “professionalism, discipline, integrity and respect,” reminding them that the public judges them by their conduct and fairness.

The new fleet, he said, should empower officers to “serve better, respond faster and protect more effectively.”
He explained that the vehicles will be deployed strategically based on security data and operational needs to high-crime zones, highway patrols, and rapid response teams.

Outlining a shift towards modern policing, the Minister highlighted the move to a predictive, data-driven, and technology-enabled model, referencing the real-time crime centre under development.

In a direct message to criminals, the Minister warned: “Your time is up. The state is prepared. The police are prepared. The tools are ready.”
